Bergen's best are the Garden State's best
|

Metropolitan New York Football Writers Association
|
| Bergen County's claim to being the Garden State's premier area for high
school football continues to build. Bergen Catholic, Don Bosco Prep and St. Joseph Regional/Montvale have produced
nationally-ranked teams on the gridiron while the post-season all star games offer supporting evidence. |
| Westwood's Cody Kritzer and Andrew Romans of St. Joseph Regional/Montvale
excelled in their final hurrahs in high school football on Thursday, June 30 in the 27th Annual NJICA North-South
All Star Game at Rutgers Stadium in Piscataway. |
| Kritzer was selected the Offensive MVP and Romans was chosen the North squad's
Defensive MVP by the news media as the North defeated the South 9-7 to narrow the South's advantage to 13-11-2
with one game not played due to inclement weather |
| Kritzer, a 6-2, 232-pound tight end who will continue his academic/athletic
career at Fordham University, hauled in a game-high six passes for 87 yards to key the North's attack. He also
earned "Hit of the Game" accolades when he blasted Keith Holt of Williamstown following an interception
by the South. |
| Romans, a 5-11, 210-pounderlinebacker, was all over the field, recording
seven tackles, six of which were solo hits. He registered four tackles for losses of 21 yards and sacked the South's
quarterback on three occasions for minus 17 yards |
| Lakeland's Tim Diamond split the up rights with the game-winning field goal
to rally the North from a 7-6 deficit. |
| Clearview's Kyle Reuter (5-11, 220) who is headed to NCAA Division III powerhouse
Delaware Valley, was chosen the South's Defensive MVP. Reuter, an OLB, registered six tackles, three of which were
solo hits, had three tackles for losses of seven yards, sacked the quarterback once for a loss of four yards and
picked off an interception he returned nine yards. |
| Asbury Park's Keith Gladden (6-1, 175) was named the South's Offensive MVP.
The quarterback connected on six of 10 passes for 57 yards, rished 14 times for a team-high 59 yards and caught
a pair of passes for nine yards. |
